Facsimilation, ongoing, mixed medium series

——

This series of painterly works began with a question, how can I hold on to memory?

The record, the video in the case of these works, is a simple approximation of the reality of happenings. Still, I wanted to ask if I could with the help of rotoscoping techniques, frame isolation, and paint to see if I can get closer to the feeling of the moment of capture.

a facsimile is an exact copy, but how can anything be truly exact?

With the concept of copying in mind, I use multiple mediums to construct what is like a memory while still commenting on ideas of record keeping, video, family, and truth. I’m curious about the things we decide to capture, the moments that are important to us, I feel they might say something deeper about the nature of being and feeling in general. And also the nature of the film itself: I ask if I stack several frames of video in a series like I have done on my canvas, at what point does it become a moving image?
