Democracy Play, 2016, Devised theatre project

As part of a drama class taught at Rue 14 Studios, children ages 10-17 participated in a devised theatre production focused on the Nigerian politics and the upcoming local elections.

Students interviews from their parents and older generations of previous election. Nigeria has a fraught history with democracy, after gaining it independence in 1960 from British government, it feel it spells of military dictatorship as corrupt governments. The monologues were performed verbatim with a songs and dances inspired by the interviews.

The poignant piece was shown as part of the Rue 14 Studios’ Summer Showcase 2016.
