Bolatito (Tito) Aderemi-Ibitola is transdisciplinary artist working primarily in performance and video. Her work focuses on the intersections of race, gender, and ethnicity.

Born in Lagos Nigeria her family emigrated from the country to the United States when she was seven years old. Her family gained citizenship and she completed primary, secondary, and undergraduate collegiate education in the United States.

She graduated from Allegheny College in 2014 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Communication: TV/Film Production and a minor in Political Science. She returned to Nigerian the fall of that year. She is based in Lagos where she is living and working. She completed her Masters degree in Performance Studies at NYU: Tisch School of the performing arts in 2018.

Aderemi-Ibitola art practices is a marrying of different artistic traditions and practices. She has a demonstrated history of working with underprivileged groups and contemporary social/ political issues. Her primary mode of creation is video and performance. In her theatrical work she focus on the practices of devised theatre, collaborative theatre making where traditional hierarchies of theatrical making are usurped in favour of a more democratic style, with a strong anchorage in the philosophy of Theatre of Development and informal citizenship. She believes in using all aspects of the theatre, including the development of a show, as a form of activism. She often works with those who are alien to the theatrical and art realm, and finds the democratic approach to devised theatre making and empowering tool for the citizens. In her performance, video and installation work she performs highly researched “visual treatise” by marrying desperate ideas together developing “object poetry” to suggest reasonings behind some of the issues that greatly affect the subordinate groups of society.

Statement: Creation with an emphasis on cohesion and collaboration.

My work does not become without the insertion of a viewer or a participant. I am alway in collaboration with the audience which often places my work in an unpredictable state of flux. My produced works are vulnerable to material references. My work explores and presents the notion of tangential possibilities, where each action, on the part of the viewer, and the subsequent reaction reflected in visual output of the work takes the work to an unexpected place. It is my hope thought my artistic practice, that we are indeed part of something larger than individual circumstance and that each actions can have unexpected results beyond the control of an individual and to insist that an ending never be experienced by those engaged in the process. 

The myriad of possibilities at any given moment and the self animating aspect of community space moved me to work with collage and moving images. Even when the image is rendered the moving image is Anti/Ante capture. The site of collaboration becomes conterminous with the consecrated and sublime. The space of collaborations allows un-rendered happenings and tangential possibilities.
